My First White Tomato

Yep, I'm ripe!

Though I have had a terrible time figuring out all my tomatoes this year, they've managed to grow all season! I was just disappointed that none of my tomatoes are what I labeled them as. In fact, I've been waiting patiently for this tomato to ripen to a pretty purple, after all, it was labeled "Purple Cherokee". Turns out to be 1 of 3 White Wonder Tomatoes I planted. The other White Wonders are too orange to be what they were labeled. This tomato is actually ripe... didn't realize what it was until I squeezed it and realized how soft it was. Tonight I will enjoy it sliced on a sandwich. :)

  1. I had the same problem with my purple tomatoes because they go from red to dark green to purple from bottom to top. I have to squeeze them to figure it out. I have never seen white. What does it taste like?

  3. I have yet to taste it. Decided for lunch, before my big small business meeting, I was going to make myself a tomato sandwich to celebrate this one tomato! :) I will for sure come back and explain the flavor. BTW... its an heirloom variety, and it grew pretty easy I guess. You can order the seed online pretty much anywhere.

I'm interested in heirloom tomatoes, though tomatoes generally don't do well in our very northern climate. I don't recall having seen a white on before though--magical! :o)

  7. Than you so much for coming by Tracy! I try to make for a fun laid back gardening adventure here.

    The white tomato is an heirloom variety, and there are more in this color available. I ate this one last night as a sandwich. It was low on seeds which is great for a slicer, very juicy too. It was very low on the acid flavor common in tomatoes, so I wouldn't suggest it for salsa or sauces. Its mild flavor went great with lettuce and mayo. I say its a keeper in the garden for slicing style tomatoes! :)

  9. The funny part is that these varieties are older then the one's we see everyday. To think, orange tomatoes and orange carrots are newly created varieties! We are just starting to grow and eat again what was original in nature.
